Lecture Summary-CPR information- Text Based Skil 2 (Week 9)


The purpose of CPR is to supply oxygen to the brain, and heart. CPR gives the patient a chance of life by keeping their brain alive until medical help arrives.
CPR is made up of two parts:
The administering of rescue breathing to provide oxygen.
The squeezing of the heart muscle.
For first aid purposes, the age guidelines of patients’ are:
Baby 0-12 months
Child 1-8 months
Adult 8 years upwards
When breathing is absent or signs of life are present.
Provides oxygen to the non- breathing patient who has no signs of life:
Ensure safety- stop, think, barriers, move
Speak to the person.
Hold sightly up the collarbone or shoulder and shout “Are you ok?”
Open air way
look, listen, and feel for effective breathing
a) pinch patients’ nose closed
b) Open your mouth wide
c) Cover patients mouth with your own mouth
d) Give 2 breaths, if breath does not go in, reposition or try again
e) If help is not on the way after 1 minute get help and dial emergency (111)
